Boomer. Misfit. Same Difference

Author Name: Lolita Chattoraj Sengupta | Format: Paperback | Genre : Biographies & Autobiographies | Other Details

Lolita's delightful book is about her life from her twenties to the present - she is now in her fifties; recounting her funny escapades, from watching Amitabh Bachchan from the gent's toilet window in Wembley to facing subliminal racism and looking for work in the UK; from walking the streets of Calcutta with her boyfriend, now husband, because they were too broke to stop anywhere and chat, to seeing ridiculous movies simply because it gave them an air-conditioned place to spend time; from her utter exhaustion with her prematurely born child to her heartbreak now that he is overseas for further studies.

Her columns are hilarious but hard-hitting. Her unfiltered narration makes the book a chuckle fest. She has a self-deprecating humour rarely found in Indian authors. Her experiences are pedestrian but her observations are acute and disarmingly honest. If you have had multi-cultural experiences in the West and India and struggled to cope with the cultural confusion; if you are generally fumbling through life, making mistakes but never learning from them, you will love this book.

Lolita Chattoraj Sengupta

Lolita Chattoraj Sengupta cannot remember a time when she didn't write for pleasure. Being published when she is nearly hitting her sixties has its irony. She writes about her own life through the decades and is refreshingly honest. The reader will find the retelling of her experiences funny, poignant, and perceptive - sometimes all of them at the same time. She writes about her life from before she got married till after she survived Covid and all the years in between.

Having spent her life in Chasnala in erstwhile Bihar, Calcutta, and in and around Cambridge, UK - her take on life is refreshing, without judgment or cultural baggage. To add spice to her already crazy life, she works in Internal Communications with a global IT giant. She has a 24-year-old son and a 13-year-old cocker-spaniel.
