Engineer by profession, attorney by choice, the author has a very colorful and interesting background as a Calcutta university blue and the best sportsman of the year awardee in one of the most prestigious engineering institutes in the country. The author received the national research council operating grant from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, to pursue master’s in Civil / Structural engineering.

After graduation, the author started work as a civil/ structural engineer and promptly returned to India to get married to his childhood sweetheart.  After many years of hard work, the author became the chief engineer in I.K.COMSTOCK engineering co. in San Francisco. in the meantime, he graduated summa cum laude and earned the master of business administration (MBA) degree and received the prestigious dean Edward j. Kelley memorial award for highest scholastic standing.

During this time, the author’s interest slowly turned towards law and he completed the doctor of jurisprudence degree in the year 1978. Working full time as an engineer and having no interest to enter the practice of law, the author   reluctantly took the California bar exam as a matter of chance only.  Luckily, he passed and his career as a lawyer started.

After having practiced law as a member of the California bar since 1978, the author was convinced by 1985 that his services were more acutely needed in India than in the U.S.  So the author left for India with his family.

The subject book is the author’s interpretation of the existing system of Indian laws and the legal practice and how the system can be improved to benefit the nation.
