Food safety is a fundamental aspect of public health and wellbeing as unsafe food poses a significant economic burden due to healthcare costs and lost productivity of the sufferer. On an average, 1600000 People get sick due to unsafe food in one day; everyday 340 Children under 5 years of age die due to preventable foodborne diseases; 200 diseases caused by unsafe food, ranging from diarrhoea to cancers. 

The United Nations General Assembly established World Food Safety Day in 2018 to raise awareness on the importance of food safety. WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with Member States and other stakeholders. This book is the outcome of the initiative taken by “Jeevan Asheesh Sameeti”, a non-profit organization from Kota city, Rajasthan and educational platform YouTube channel “dietitian ki salah” on the occasion of World food safety day, 2023. This book provides basic guidelines about different topics related to food safety and security. We believe that this book is an important contribution to the community in addressing common issues pertaining to safe food, food related issues and food security from numerous domains of community.

Dr. Khushboo Gupta

Dr. Khushboo Gupta has published about more than 30 research papers in reputed national and international journals; 7 book chapters in different edited books, several news paper and magazine articles related to health, nutrition and new food product formulation. She authored one book related to elderly nutrition; edited twelve books related to community science, food science and nutrition, health and wellness, issues with girls and millets for upliftment of the individuals of the society. The patent office, Government of India has granted a patent to Dr. Khushboo for her research on food formulation using RSM. Dr. Gupta has successfully completed more than 30 courses on various diverse topics organized by SWAYAM, UNICEF, WHO and Cornell University.

Dr. Praveen Katiyar  is currently Chief Proctor of CSJM University, Kanpur. He is Honorary Professor of IMA College of General Practitioner, Indian Medical Association HQ, New Delhi. He has been President, Indian Medical Association, Kanpur Branch consequently two times (2016-17 & 2017-18). 

Dr Preeti Verma is a Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) in Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Banasthali Vidyapith, Tonk, Rajasthan. She did her Ph.D. and M.Sc. from Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan. She has actively participated and presented various research papers in National and International workshops, Seminars and conferences. She has also contributed to develop range of booklets, folders and study materials. 

Dr. Rajashree Vivek Pawar has been teaching English language at Dr. Ambedkar HSS Colvale Goa for the past 20 years. Dr. Pawar has published many research papers in national journals. She is a chapter author for the book "Health and wellness" and "mental health - depression". She served as a resource person for numerous workshops contributing her expertise and knowledge to facilitate meaningful learning experience.

Dr. Sangeeta is working as Assistant Professor in Home- Science (Food & Nutrition) at Ramabai Govt. Women Post Graduate College- Akbarpur, Ambedkarnagar- Uttar- Pradesh. She has 13 year experience of teaching to graduates and Post graduate students. She got many prestigious awards such as Best Teacher Award, Young Scientist Award; Award from Higher Education, Excellence Academician Award, Best Oral Presentation Award etc.
