Her first book, "Rising Daughter, Silent Mother, Fading Grandmother," was her M.A research study of female sexuality within the North Malabar Nair Family structure. It was born out of her own journey as a modern-day city-bred daughter of modern patriarchal Kerala(India) wantng to redefine, reclain, and re-inform her relationship with body and sexuality through the discovery and investigation of matrilineal Nair female centered rituals and practices. It also, birthed her work with women and girls through the She Stands Tall Project.
Today Rekha Govindan Kurup supports women and men in re-membering, processing, integrating, and embodying the dance of body, sexuality and spirituality in all aspects of daily life through ritual wisdom, creative self-expression, earth-honed spirituality, reclaiming stories of one’s ancestry, and learning to create safe-sacred spaces to gather in life. Her work is founded in a unique transformative learning model based on a whole person philosophy that addresses six areas of human development namely physical, emotional, psychological, relational, creative and spiritual in a way that a living spirituality, the creative arts, sexuality, the body, and the participant all become part of the transformative experience. Currently her guidance is to make time to birth her wisdom through books, art, and workshops founded in this Dark-Light rhythm.
