Author Name: Shivani Badola, Sacchidananda Mukherjee | Format: Paperback | Genre : Educational & Professional | Other Details

National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India conducts various socio-economic surveys across States in India on a regular basis and brings out reports. The reports provide aggregate (macro) level information which has certain research /policy importance. However, unit level data of various rounds of NSS surveys are a rich source of information which is largely used in research by scholars, corporate managers and policy makers. The usage of NSSO’s unit level data is not restricted to India only but also it is largely used by researchers working on Indian economy across universities and research Institutions in the world. In absence of any manual of extracting unit level data from the files provided by NSSO (either free or payment basis), researchers often find it difficult to use NSSO’s unit level data in their research. The objective of the present manual is to provide a step-by-step process (methodology) of extracting unit level data of NSSO’s surveys by using STATA® software.

This manual gives insights of extracting unit level data of NSSO’s survey using 75th Round Survey (Schedule 25.2 - Social Consumption: Education) which is available freely at http://www.mospi.gov.in/unit-level-data-report-nss-75th-round-schedule-252july-2017-june-2018social-consumption-education. The methodology described in this manual could be universally applied to extract any rounds of NSSO’s survey.
