Many young students suffer from arithmophobia, i.e. a fear of numbers. They think mathematics is difficult as compared to other subjects. Many young children have a fear of mathematics; as a result, they do not perform well in exams. Our method of teaching somehow seems to be responsible for this. The teacher generally writes theorems and formulas and solves some related problems. This does not create interest in the minds of young children. Mathematics in the form of stories and puzzles will create enthusiasm in young minds. In this book, the author has solved some mathematical problems and puzzles through stories. Many of the stories are quite ancient and are known in different civilizations in the form of folk tales.

Mayadhar Swain
Mayadhar Swain is an engineer, academician, and a prolific writer in Odia and English languages. He is acknowledged as one of the few who promoted the use of Odia vernacular language in science education by writing about complex issues of science and mathematics in easy Odia. He is chief editor of Odia Science monthly Bigyan Digant. He was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for popularisation of science 2018 by the All India People's Science Congress in 2018.
