In this play written in five acts comprising mostly of verse, a well-loved fairy tale is brought back to life. Though magic is hinted at, it is not made obvious, and though miners come to the aid of a damsel in distress, they are not dwarves.
Join Heloise as she becomes obsessed with her own beauty, her step-daughter Marian as she flees from a man who seeks her heart, a band of miners who are ‘rough as hard crystal, but diamonds at the core’ and their leader Walter who is not really whom he appears to be.
And join the Chorus – a group of women, who are a personification of a young maid’s thoughts as they set the scene for each act, and prepare the reader for "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" told in an entirely different way.
Cindy Pereira
Cindy Pereira, born and raised in Bangalore, India prefers to be called a story teller rather than a writer. Her love for making up stories began at a very young age when her dolls became the actors for scripts written in her mind. This turned to writing in middle school when she and her best friend hand wrote stories for each other, complete with binding and cover pages. Some of her stories spark out of actual life events and some are just yarns.
This play was written in 2002, on a whim, just after she had completed her Master’s degree in English Literature. At that time, it was printed out and bound, with the author’s own cover-art in watercolour, depicting a young girl running through the woods.
The same watercolour was chosen for this book’s cover.
Cindy loves to trek, run and just ‘catch the sun.’ She is married and lives with her husband in Bangalore.
