The book delves into the global narratives on quality education in the backdrop of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4). It provides insights into the efforts taken by different countries, including India, in the form of legislations, schemes, policies and programmes, focussing on achieving the targets and indicators of SDG4 and as to how the Accessibility, Affordability, Availability and Quality (AAAQ) have been the guiding principles for the same. It highlights the challenges and limitations in achieving the goal of quality education and provides invaluable suggestions to tackle the same. R Vidya
Dr. R. Vidya is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Madras Christian College, Chennai, since June 2012. She has completed her graduation and post-graduation in Political Science from the Presidency College, Chennai, and Madras Christian College, respectively. Dr. Vidya cleared the National Eligibility Test for Lectureship in June 2010 and was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship by the University Grants Commission in December 2010. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Madras and the title of her thesis was "The Implications of RTE Reservation and the Need for Education Security: A Study of Private Unaided Schools in Chennai District". Dr. Vidya teaches the Indian Constitution, Contemporary Political Theory and Modern Political Systems. Her areas of interest include Public Policy, Gender, and Indian Politics. She is a co-author of the textbooks on Political Science for classes XI and XII, recently published by the State Council of Education, Research and Training (SCERT), Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Vidya has served as the Subject Expert at the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education (TANSCHE), Government of Tamil Nadu. She is a Core Committee Member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at the Madras Christian College. Her recent research work titled "Invoking the domain competence principle in India's maritime governance: A case for an Indian Maritime Service" was published in the "Maritime Affairs", a SCOPUS-indexed journal of the National Maritime Foundation, a track 1.5 think-tank of the Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
