Moods of a travel

by karthik

I was all ready and enthusiastic to attend my best friend's marriage. When things go too good you tend to get an instinct that something bad might happen. I had the same when I got a free lift from one of my colleague to Chennai Central station. Since I was getting a free ride and I checked that I still had lots of time to reach station. So I asked my colleague if we could go to a restaurant and have caffeine aka Coffee. He agreed and we got into a hotel and I was soon refilling caffeine in my body. He paid the bill. I decided the day can’t be any better with a free ride, free coffee and started thinking what if I reach station early.

Well things do change like climate. When we neared the station we just noticed all the roads towards station are temporarily blocked due to some protest. Was cursing every possible thing I could. I was supposed to be in Chennai Central by 7.45 PM to catch Trivandrum mail. Pure bad luck was all I could say and said bye bye to my friend and was running/jogging/walking towards station. It was 7.45 PM when I gazed at my mobile entering the station. I was scanning the big monitor faster than the super computer to check platform and there it was Trivandrum mail delayed by 20 minutes. Yuppie!! I turned around thinking "Now where is that Saravana Bhavan I need refill my caffeine!!!!"

Sudden mood swings/mind changes is what one cannot really predict. As I was sipping my coffee started thinking how a small argument leads to extreme to fatality. Sometimes you just say words just to hurt your loved one even though you know for a split second that you should not really say it and it will hurt her. I thought it was time and as I was walking towards my coach decided to give a message "SORRY" but my awesome mobile with extended battery support was too good and got switched off. It was time for train's departure and didn’t have time to call from the phone booth and it a very long day and my leggings were begging to rest. Alas reached my berth, my resting place for next 18 hours. Chennai was showing its colours of humidity and as it has been our daily routine started cursing god for the climate. Dreams here I come... Knock! Knock! I forgot the whole thing about ticket. I had it in my smartphone but thankfully it my friend who wanted to check if printer connection was working took printout of the ticket and I had kept it in my packet. That really saved me. For a change thanked God and was soon in my dream world.

Next day I woke up and took my mobile remembered the tragic death of it last night. Well I do not the time, great!! Only responsible people wear watches. Don't ask me where it is said, it’s there in my dictionary. I looked around if I could ask someone well sorry no beautiful girls so never mind went back to sleep. Tea coffee... Tea Coffee... OMG CAFFEINE... Literally jumped from my upper birth and rushed to coffee vendor and got a coffee... Oh Yeah!! Back to my place sipping my coffee. Was wondering first time in my life I was off to an unknown place without a mobile or address and Thank my sure stroke of genius I took printout of train ticket and had written Anu's number in its back. Pro right... exactly... I know I was awesome.

I was literally hating this kind of life is it without a mobile phone!! So went to refresh myself and opened the coach doors to get breeze. What no houses and more trees!! Then remembered I was in Kerala already. Was wondering what the time would be but was sure time isn't 11.45 AM because that was the time I was supposed to reach Trivandrum. Was keeping fingers crossed and wished the train gets late because I have nothing to do even if I reach sooner.

The train passed a temple and there were the angels with graceful smile with wet hair, pinned with a flower. You never knew what will make you happy. I went back to my berth and OMG there were two cute little chumps. I started a casual talk to their parents asking the kid's names and then took one of the kids and started playing with him. So when he went back to his parents he left me with 12 kisses, 2 biting’s with half grown teeth, 20 ml of saliva, 6 slaps, 1 scratch on my nose and a broken specs. Yay new personal record.

Why do you get bored of something? Well I am pretty sure everyone can give a better answer to that than me. Well I get bored simply because I am super lazy. But there are things in everyone's life that they don't get bored at any cost. I had around 2 more hours left in my journey and couldn't do anything else other than wondering all the stuffs in my mind. A father never gets bored of his son's mischiefs son never gets bored getting scolded by father, a mother never gets bored warning his daughter, a daughter never gets bored stressing her mother, a husband never gets bored listening to his wife's advices, a wife never gets bored of her husband's forgetfulness, a brother never gets bored pulling legs of his sister, a sister never gets bored asking help from her brother and it goes on. Being only son I had missed much of these things but had loved watching when this happens to my friends.

I came back to my real self when I realized someone was pulling my shirt. It was one of the chumps from his dad's hold. He was ready for round two. Yay I Jumped to lower birth gearing myself for second round. The kid’s mom went to sleep and their dad said he has to use restroom and will be back in 10 minutes. I was like oh my god so this time it was a handicapped match (2 vs. 1).

After 10 minutes, nothing happened as expected. Things were totally odd. May be it was my luck both the kids dozed :) I gently laid them side by side and wrapped with bed cover and sat next to them watching them sleep. So lovely angels they were. The dad came back and said thanks and I was back to my upper birth.

It was less than 30 minutes to reach Trivandrum so I made sure I had put all my things in my bags and zipped them. I had friends but here I was going to my best friend's marriage all alone with no company. Was it that everyone was so busy in their real life? Were the reasons that they gave were genuine? Why they didn’t come to marriage or they didn't like to come with me? So there went a dozen questions in my head again.

Sudden cries made me come out of my thoughts it was one of the chumps seems he got bitten by something. I could see the pain in the eyes of his parents who were cajoling him and with one looking around to see what had bit him and another checking his body where it had bitten. I was helpless and couldn't stand his cries and got down and went near doors of berth. Wish I could take the pain of the child and I was cursing god again for hurting the chump. This is probably the easy thing I could do. Anything bad happens curse god and it’s done. It's just you are not ready to take anything up blame someone. If you have no one blame God. Things are as simple as that.

Train was entering the station and I took my bags from my upper berth and turned around to bid farewell to my chumps but they were still asleep. So I said a bye to their parents and went to stand near the doors. Still things were running in my mind and to be honest I got more to think now. Now a beautiful girl from the berth near door called me and asked if I could give a hand to help her get down from upper birth. Now the hero entry theme was running in background and I helped her to get down (slow motion). She gave a smile and said thanks. Now I was back to my spot near door and was filled with beautiful imaginations.

An elderly guy came from back and hit me and said sorry he missed the balance. I was so angry and was thrashing him in my mind. Time seemed to be running in super ultra-slow motion. I hated every bit when I realized that guy was standing behind me. Chewing something in his mouth and I was wondering if he was spitting on my shirt or bag. When the train halted I just got down and was relieved. Atlas Trivandrum "Junction welcomes you".

Now where did that beautiful girl go?
