The field of pharmacognosy has well advanced in the past centuries. Natural products from the medicinal plant source are the main cast of modern drugs in clinical use.
The practical observations help to understand the subject more precisely and are supplement to the theoretical class room knowledge. The present Endeavour is an attempt to create a sense of understanding and interest towards medicinal plants/ herbal drugs in the students of pharmacy.

The practical presents exhaustively the morphological and microscopical features to identify important crude drugs, along with their uses. Evaluation of crude drugs by organoleptic and chemical tests and a brief description of therapeutically important crude drugs for examination purpose have been incorporated. An attempt has been made to make the practical aspects of pharmacognosy easier in simple and lucid language to make the subject more interesting for the students of pharmacy.
We hope that the students as well as fellow teachers would find this book useful. Suggestions for its further improvement will be appreciated.
Organic Chemistey deals with classification and nomenclature of simple organic
compounds, structural isomerism, intermediates forming in reactions, important physical
properties, reactions and methods of preparation of these compounds. This book covers all the experiments as per PCI syllabus for B.Pharm II semester Students.

Plants being constantly exposed to environment, absorb, accumulate and integrate pollutants impinging on their foliar surfaces and sometimes even show specific response too and can be used as bio indicator for different types of pollutants. In case of trees not only foliar surface but bark also absorb and accumulate the air pollutants. In the present book effect of air pollution with reference to medicinal plants were discussed and elaborated in detail.

The skin is the most readily accessible organ of the body and acts as a barrier against the micro and macromolecules of the environment because of its low permeability to such substances. The skin of an average adult body has approximately 2 m2 surface area and it receives about one-third of the total blood circulating throughout the body. Percutaneous absorption of drug through skin mainly occurs via stratum corneum. Stratum corneum is made up of dead, keratinized epidermal cells having thickness of 10 µm and acts as a barrier for permeation of drugs. Therefore transport of drug molecules across the skin is difficult.
Transdermal therapeutics systems are defined as self contained discrete dosage formswhen applied to the intact skin, deliver the drugs through the skin, at controlled rate to thesystemic circulation. The advantages of delivering drugs across the skin for systemic therapy arewell documented. Some of the main advantages of a transdermal drug delivery system are:The simplified medication regimen leads to improved patient compliance and reduced inter andintra patient variability.

Ethosomes are easy to prepare, store, high entrapment, deeper permeability and enhanced delivery of active constituents. Various application in Pharmaceutical, Veterinary, Cosmetic field reported and further developments are going on. As compared to others which requires lot of inputs. The technology has no large-scale drug development risk since the toxicological profiles of the ethosomal components are well documented in the scientific literature. The ethosomes administered in semisolid form (gel or cream), producing high patient compliance by is high. In contrast, Iontophoresis and Phonophoresis are relatively complicated to use which will affect patient compliance. High market attractiveness for products with proprietary technology. Relatively simple to manufacture with no complicated technical investments required for production
of Ethosomes. Hence easy to scale up.The Ethosomal system is passive, non-invasive and is available for immediate commercialization. Ethosomes enhanced permeation of active constituents through skin
for transdermal and dermal delivery. Comparative studies of existing dermal and transdermal drug delivery systems with the Ethosome technology proved a significant superiority for ethosome over the other technologies in terms of efficiency and lack of irritancy.Ethosomes are platform for the delivery of large and diverse group
of drugs (peptides, protein molecules), active herbal constituents.
