Out of the blue something snapped. It was wife.
“Stop giving instructions. STOP telling me what to do!”
I quickly looked around. We were about 100-150 meters from the shore. I was relieved nobody would hear us.
“You can paddle correctly left-right, left-right. At least we will go straight.” Said I, trying to remain calm.
“Shut up. I will NOT row.”
“It’s quite easy. Just make a little effort. Follow my instructions!” said I, not realizing the supreme stupidity of my statement. Strong independent woman are not the ones born to follow instructions. And certainly not those from their spouse. Kayak or no kayak. Phi Phi be damned.
“My back’s hurting, you idiot!. Give me support!!” yelled she.
Her words and tone didn’t quite addup. I sensed more exasperation than pain in her voice.

Author Bio Ajay’s career heading Tech MNCs and a mundane IIT engineering education clouded and lorded over a creative streak. The creative streak, not to be stumped, struggled and found expression in little things; creating Junk Sculpture, winning submissions in Photographic competitions, award winning Bonsai creations, and of course, his infamously long WhatsApp posts! Ajay’s creativity found full expression, when, post 58, encouraged by home-grown fans, he started dabbling in writing short stories and participating in story writing contests. While these contests brought no great success they did help in honing writing skills and resulted in an obsession with light-hearted fiction writing. Encouraged by the confidence gained from many a failed attempt writing stories to someone else’s contest prompts, Ajay decided to make the story spinning in his head as his own prompt. He started building on it, para by para, chapter by chapter. Thus was born “Phi Phi Follies: A tale of Middle-Age Romance” – Ajay’s maiden attempt to write a slice-of-life fiction novel on a never-before-attempted oxymoron called middle-age romance! Ajay is from Prayagrag and is currently living with his wife in Noida when they are not visiting their daughter, son-in-law & grandson in San Francisco.
