He enjoyed an intimate and long-standing association with Mr. H. L. Gupta as a son, colleague and partner in shaping up Model Institute of Education and Research and taking it to the highest echelons of success as one of the best educational institutions at the regional and national level. As his only son, the task of compiling this book, almost four decades after the passing away of Mr. H. L. Gupta, was challenging, deeply emotional, personally rewarding and an enriching experience for him. This also provided him a rare opportunity to appreciate his great father both as an individual and as an educationist par excellence.

“I have enjoyed the unique privilege of sharing a personal and working relationship with three generations of Guptas, beginning from Sh. H. L. Gupta to Dr Arun K. Gupta and now, Dr Adit Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta. It is indeed credible how his legacy has been diligently and painstakingly kept alive and enriched over the years. The book not only traces the growth of the education system in the early nineteen hundred, in the private sector, but also serves as a handbook to inspire and guide those who single-mindedly choose to devote themselves to the cause of education”.

Ever since the New Policy of Education (NPE) came into force in the year 1986 in India, there has been a wide spread criticism at all levels against the prevailing system of teacher preparation in India. Several stakeholders of the teacher education system have raised their voices against the low quality of training and teacher preparation in the colleges of education. The mushroom growth of colleges of education in the country with insufficient infrastructure, deficient faculties, low quality of teaching-learning process, malpractices and the inability of the statutory bodies to manage, control and reform the system, resulted in a chaotic situation. Ultimately, the Supreme Court of India intervened and directed the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to increase the duration of teacher education programmes from one to two years and also revise curricula for these courses. The present book includes a collection of scholarly papers in which the learned contributors have covered diverse themes concerning different aspects of the Teacher Education Programme as modified by the NCTE. This book attempts to provide a roadmap for improving and strengthening the effectiveness of the modified system of teacher education, especially at the B.Ed. level by emphasizing the roles of research, training, better infrastructural facilities, innovative practices and multi-pronged strategies to improve the quality of both teacher educators and teacher trainees. The need to embed quality assurance in the functioning of teacher education institutions has also been amply highlighted in this book. The book, therefore, can be considered as a valuable addition to the scanty literature on the subject which is a center of discussion in academic circles today. The present volume should prove useful to the practitioners of education, teacher educators, colleges of education, researchers as well as students of teacher education at all levels.

Implementing Inclusion in Schools
School restructuring initiatives worldwide indicate a paradigm shift towards inclusion. Even though inclusive education has come a long way, its effective implementation at different levels in school, as well as higher learning institutions, is a challenging and perplexing task which requires demystification. An attempt has been made in the book to connect theoretical framework with practicing strategies and global trends in inclusive education in addition to highlighting challenges and issues. The book brings together contributors from eminent scholars not only from India but also from U.S. and Brazil to share their best practices, inclusive education models and curriculum modifications to make this book a valuable resource for professionals and practitioners in the field. The book includes twelve chapters divided into two broad themes. The first deals with the theoretical aspects of inclusion such as decoding inclusion, the journey of inclusive education, policies and cultural beliefs. The second theme highlights hands-on experiences, practices, case-study of institutions implementing successful inclusion and global trends in inclusive education. The book should prove helpful for students, teachers, researchers, policymakers and administrators in the field.
