I am the daughter of Late Dr. Atm Anand (son of Late Swami Brahm Anand) and Late Smt. Phool Kumari Devi (daughter of Late Saraswati Prasad). Although my family roots were from Bihar, both sides of my family settled away from Bihar due to work commitments. Brahm Anand ji founded Kanya Gurukul at Khanpur and because of this his son’s education happened at Gurukul Kangdi. He got admitted at 5 years and graduated at 25 years. Late Dr. Atm Anand ji made Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh his place of work, where he got appointed at the DhunMun Das Hospital.

Father of Late Smt. Phool Kumari Devi, Late Saraswati Prasad was a high ranking official in Indian Railways and was posted in Bengal region of India. Phool Kumari ji’s education and upbringing happened in Bengal.

After their marriage Late Atm Anand ji and Late Smt. Phool Kumari ji decided to stay in Gorakhpur. I am the youngest of their 3 daughters and 1 son.

I do not remember the face of my father as he passed away at an early age of 52 years. However, my mother although being the daughter-in-law of a very high-ranking family and wife of a very big ‘Vaidya’, was equally talented, patient, solemn and devout. Any amount of appreciation for her will not be able to do justice for her. I have no words to characterize her praise.

Although both my families were from Bihar, however due to their working in Punjab and Bengal and residency in Uttar Pradesh, I had a collection of recipes from all these states, in my home. Whatever I have learned I have learned from my mother; she was my guide.

At this stage of my life, whatever I have learned, I have tried to put it in this book. I hope the reader will enjoy the recipes.

This book is dedicated to my mother Late Smt. Phool Kumari Devi ji.
