Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalIn today’s technology-driven world, digital interactions have become an essential part of daily life for people of all ages. While immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and digital simulations offer numerous benefits in education, healthcare, entertainment, and work, they can also lead to cybersickness,a set of symptoms resulting from sensory conflict in virtual environments.
This book provides a comprehensive guide to understanding, assessing, and managing cybersickness, with a special focus on the role of occupational therapy in promoting safe and meaningful engagement with digital environments.
The Chapter 1 introduces cybersickness, its relevance in modern life, and the occupational therapy perspective. Chapter 2, theoretical perspectives contributing to cybersickness. Chapter 3 describes the signs and symptoms and its impact on occupational performance. Chapter 4 Presents occupational therapy-informed assessment tools to identify and measure cybersickness. Chapter 5 Highlights functional limitations of cybersickness and how cybersickness can affect work, study, leisure, and social engagement and so on. Chapter 6 offers OT strategies including habituation, activity modification, environmental adaptation, and graded exposure to support participation and minimize symptoms. And the following chapter gives conclusion and references.
