MY primary research aim was to investigate the nature and limits of human understanding, specifically focusing on how knowledge is acquired through experience. He sought to establish a foundation for modern empiricism by analyzing the processes through which ideas are formed in the mind, arguing against the notion of innate ideas and emphasizing that all knowledge originates from sensory experiences and reflection. This foundational inquiry aimed to clarify what humans can legitimately claim to know and the extent of their cognitive capabilities.
I articulated this aim in his seminal work, An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, where I systematically explored various aspects of human cognition, including the origins of ideas, the role of language in shaping thought, and the criteria for evaluating knowledge. By doing so, he intended to lay a groundwork for future philosophical inquiry and scientific exploration, advocating for a rational approach to understanding both the self and the external world.
