Abdurahman Chughtai Ki Kala Yatra Abdurahman Chughtai 1894-1975

Author Name: Dr. Nazima Irfan | Format: Paperback | Genre : Biographies & Autobiographies | Other Details

Abdurrehman Chughtai was a painter and an intellectual artist, who was inspired by Mughal art and Miniature painting to create his own exclusive style. He is known as Asia’s modern Muslim artist and the national artist of Pakistan.

He was given the title of ‘Khan Bahadur’ by the British Raj in 1934, and was awarded Pakistan’s second highest civilian award, ‘Hilal-i-Imtiaz’ in 1960.

Chughtai produced about 2000 paintings in the watercolour medium, thousands of pencil sketches and approximately 300 etchings in his lifetime. He also wrote articles and short articles on art. He designed tickets, coins, book covers and logos. He also had his own collection of art.

Chughtai even published 3 books of his paintings: Muraqqa-e-Chughtai (1928), Naqsh-e-Chughtai (1935) and Chughtai’s Paintings (1940). Muraqqa-e-Chughtai is a book with a preface of Sir Mohammad Iqbal and an edition of the poetry of Mirza Ghalib.

Abdurrehman Chughtai designed the logo of Pakistan Television Nigam PTV when asked by his organizer, Ubaidurrehman. This logo has been changed currently.

In his eventful and struggling life, Chughtai became only a true artist and did not show the path to future generations. This proposition can be proved by the fact that he did not have any followers. He devoted his whole life and energy for the creation of paintings, and this was his only area of interest. There has been a new era of the re-emergence of Indian art culture. In this way, Bengal and Punjab have been given a recognizable position in the world through the efforts of Rabindranath Tagore and Abdurrehman Chughtai respectively.
