Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalThis book is a memoir which has taken the form of a young runaway boy’s tale of being lost and found. Narayanasamy Srinivasan, the author and the protagonist of this story, recollects his escapade from fifty years ago as a 12-year-old boy who eloped from his village and embarked on an adventure to the city, which then became a story worth passing on across generations. The story in itself has multiple twists and makes us realize that the truth is stranger than fiction. The author paints a vivid image of what it meant to be in Tamil Nadu (India) in the 1960s, its culture, traditions, history, cinema and politics. To those who can relate to the period, be prepared to be taken back in time and drenched in nostalgia. And the rest of you, prepare to get introduced to the magic of the 60s.
Narayanasamy Srinivasan
Born in 1955, Narayanasamy grew up in an agricultural family in southern Tamil Nadu. He did his Master's in English literature in Thiagarajar College, Madurai, the seat of many a student struggle, especially the anti-Hindi imposition agitations in the state. Schooling by eminent teachers like Prof. T.V. Subba Rao and Prof. N. Sakthivelan inculcated in him a mind for "the free play of ideas." His quest for solutions to social issues led him to Marxist ideology. He was active in the leftist movement for over four decades till he contracted cancer and passed away suddenly in August 2019. A voracious reader, he was familiar with the Marxist and literary classics and showed a keen interest in the interface between caste and class in his later years.
