Mariko Sumikura

Mariko Sumikura is a japanese poet and essayist. Born in Kyoto (1952), she graduated from Ristumeikan University. Representative of Japan Universal Poets Association, Chief-in-editors of online international journal Poetic-Bridge: Ama-Hashi (www.ama-hashi.com) and JUNPA BOOKS. Her main source of inspiration is the Japanese medieval novelist and poet Murasaki Shikibu, author of The Tale of Genji. Her first contact with Western literature was William Blake, who became the topic of her graduation thesis at the University. Her interest in European culture ranges from French literature, Russian literature to Spanish philosophy like Maria Zambrano. Her main publications are: Kokoro Kaoru Hito (A Woman Scented), Yume Tsumugu Hito (A Woman Spinning a dream), Hikari Oru Hito (A Woman Weaving Ray of Light), Ai Matou Hito A Woman Wearing Love), Tsuchi daku Masurao (A Man Embracing the Earth). She participated to the 49th Struga Poetry Readings in 2011, Jan Smrek International Literary Festival in 2012, “Europa in Versi” in Como, Italy, in 2015 and Mihai Eminescu International Poetry Festival (Craiova, Romania) in 2015. As a Literary Translation, she translated over 30 books for the Junpa Books Series and won the Translated Irish Literature Award by Ireland Literature Exchange in 2012 with Mina wo Tonaete (Uttering Her Name by Gabriel Rosenstock).
