At an enthusiastic age of 24, when you are high on energy wanting to channel it into a career field that you have chosen, life throws a curveball at you and you are somehow expected to knock it out of the park. Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis, a disease that I had vaguely heard of, infected me while I was busy planning my future. What, how, why, when??? Well, I just had it and I was fine with it, until… that’s a story for the next pages!
I am Akshata Acharya, MDR TB survivor and this is my journey of overcoming TB and 'many other things' that came after!
Akshata Acharya
Born and brought up in Navi Mumbai, Akshata Acharya is a theater practitioner with 8+ years of experience in stage acting. She is a recipient of Zee Natya Gaurav and Maharashtra Times Sanman – prestigious awards for her work in experimental plays. She holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from KC College, Mumbai. She pivoted to writing after being diagnosed with stage II Tuberculosis in 2021.
ECLIPSED is her first writing endeavor that encapsulates her recovery from a two-year-long excruciating struggle with the disease. It also talks about the ramifications of the treatment on other areas of her physical, mental, and emotional health. TB was not just about popping tablets – her work and interpersonal relationships too were affected in unfathomable ways. She narrates her struggles candidly and owns her story.
A firm believer in healthy living, regular yoga, meditation and mindfulness, Akshata is also a TB advocate and an active member of Survivors Against Tuberculosis, a public health organization that works towards policy making and effective patient-centric care in the country. After successfully completing her medicine course, she has now gone back to what she loves – acting, writing, and directing!
