Born in 1955 at Chandernagore in West Bengal, Purnendu Ghosh is a retired Government Official. Keeping his bitter-sweet childhood memories alive, he took to writing stories reminiscing his early days and the then situations of Bengal in his leisure time. During seventies he remained unperturbed in political turmoil, anarchic education in the state and continued his studies and later got settled with his family in Delhi. The world is changing with time at a fast pace. According to author, it is necessary to accept the change and keep pace with time for our progress. This has been narrated in this book, “Kal-Aj-Kal”. His attraction towards the Indian spiritual thoughts gave rise to the book “Jagriti”, a compilation of his articles based on the thoughts of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Aurobindo, Swami Vivekananda – a publication highly acclaimed. His another book “Srotaswini Ganga” is a collection of short stories written in Bengali. Effect of nonchalant environment and closeness of nature by the side of river Ganga in his life are reflected in number of stories in this book.
West Bengal is known as the birth place of many enlightened persons who excelled in fields of art, literature, culture, science, philosophy, education and so on. With the development of science and technology, we now witness rapid change everywhere in our society. This inevitable change is unaccepted in some parts of the state. The progressive movement of West Bengal is getting retarded due to its unwillingness to accept this change. One more thing forming barrier there is the political environment.
