Dr. Sarbjit Singh

Brig (Retd) Dr. Sarbjit Singh is an alumnus of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh, IIT Kanpur and Punjab University, Chandigarh, India. He did BE (Electrical) in 1964 from PEC and joined Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun. After one year of training at IMA, he was commissioned in the Indian Army on 27 Jun 1965 in the Corps of Signals. He has served from 1965 to 1995 in the “Corps of Signals”, Indian Army. While in the Army, he did M Tech (CSE), 1970 to 1972 from IIT Kanpur and PhD in 1991 from Punjab University, Chandigarh. In 1976, he was sent to EMC Agency, Bland Ford, UK, for training in Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC). On return from UK, he established an EMC cell at Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) Mhow, MP in 1977. In 1980, while serving in an Army Signal Regt in the North Eastern Sector of India, he was sent on special duty to Oil India Ltd (OIL), Nunmati, Guwahati (India), where he was trained and engaged as Senior Dispatcher for the Oil India Pipeline control system. For his dedication to this duty in helping to break three year old oil blockade, he was awarded Chief of Army Staff’s Commendation. In 1982, while serving as a Joint Director, Real-time Processing System Organization (RPSO) in a field formation in Northern Sector of India, he was trained in TIFR (Bombay), for designing and developing Real-Time, Operations Information Systems (OIS) for the field Army. From 1983 to 1985, he was Commanding Officer of a Signal Regiment, providing Mobile Radio (UHF) Grid Communications for a Field Formation in the Western Sector.
