Gurminder Singh was born in a family of farmers in the village Malakpur, Hapur District, Uttar Pradesh. He received his primary education at the village school and higher education from the University of Delhi. He has worked in the areas of elementary education with Governmental, Non-Governmental and Multilateral International (United Nations) Organizations.
