In India, commissioning is always viewed traditionally as an activity to be executed for the plant or system start-up so that, it can be taken up for operation. Due to this approach, even today, at most job sites, much attention is not given to performing the commissioning of air handling units in the first place. Moreover, performing the commissioning of air handling units is quite often disregarded as it requires time and money at large. Despite being an essential phase in the lifecycle of an air handling unit, its commissioning is never given the respect that it deserves. The project engineer’s lack of awareness about the importance of performing the commissioning, the project manager’s perception about commissioning as a total waste of time, and the project owner’s perception about commissioning, as an unsolicited cost absorbing process, are attributed to not emphasizing more on standard commissioning practices. By large, all the lapses during the plant/system installation are either overlooked or left uncorrected by untrained and unskilled workforce, thus contributing to the persistence of long-term problems post-commissioning with bad performance outputs. This book presents all that is needed to perform proper commissioning in a chronological sequence to enhance the efficiency of air handling systems.
