Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalRain Melody
Rain and its sound have always greatly fascinated me since my childhood. When it started raining, I would set aside my school studies, and would keep watching the rain. I still do so. The sound of the rain, gushing winds, lightning flashes and rumbling clouds - all these sound to my ears like 'melodies with a primitive rhythm' -Aadim Talna Sangeet. Although there is only one poem with this title in this collection, there are several others that try to catch this rain melody in words. Rain - may it be a drizzle,a sun-shower or a hurricane storm; all rainfalls always charm me. The music captivates me.
I wrote all these poems originally in the Ahirani language. The dialect and its niceties form the core of these poems. Some may wonder about the origin and the form of Ahirani. I hold that when a poet expresses himself in a particular language, he bends it a little to his purpose. Can we say, that it, perhaps, becomes his own different, individual dialect? Hence, one would not be able to reach the poems by just approaching the dialect. I request you to try to approach the soul of the poems.
I write this, certainly not to explain the creative process behind my poems, nor is it the critical appreciation, nor their literary criticism. It is just a preface, a foreword to my collection of poems.
This anthology consists of 235 poems - 153 of which appeared in the first edition, and 82 more which were written later (during 2001 and 2020)
