Katar Singh

Katar Singh was born and brought up in a farm family in a village in western Uttar Pradesh. He got his primary and secondary education in his village school and in a nearby village school. He pursued his undergraduate and post-graduate studies in the Government Agriculture, College, Kanpur and doctoral and post-doctoral studies in USA.

He is currently Honorary (Founder) Chairman, India Natural Resource Economics and Management (INREM) Foundation, which is a non-governmental, academic organisation, committed to promoting teaching, training and research in natural resource economics and environment management. Formerly, he was Director and RBI Chair Professor of Rural Economics at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA), India. He also had a short stint as Director of Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow. He also taught at the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.

He has over 45 years of experience in teaching, training, research and consulting in the areas of agricultural and rural development, and natural resource and environmental economics. He has coordinated and conducted several research and consultancy projects funded by both national and international agencies. A prolific writer, he has published over 120 articles and papers in reputed journals and authored/co-authored nine books, two of which are text books.

Dr. Singh has been honored with several accolades including the Rathindra Puraskar 2003,  in recognition of his significant contribution to education in rural development, awarded by Visva- Bharati University, SantiNiketan, West Bengal and Sir Chhotu Ram National Award for the year 1996-97 in recognition of his outstanding research work in the field of agriculture and rural development, awarded by CSS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, India. He is a life member of several professional societies.
