Mystical Palimpsest A Collection of Two Novellas - The Ocean is Her Title And Detectives of Autumn House

Author Name: Manjima Misra | Format: Paperback | Genre : Literature & Fiction | Other Details

THE OCEAN IS HER TITLE

Weaving together magical realism, frame narrative, stream of consciousness, epistolary narrative, and postmodern experimental writing techniques, 'The Ocean is Her Title' explores the nuances of mental health through the metaphor of the 'ocean'. The intersection of individual growth, personal narrative formation and philosophical reflections is a pervasive element in the book.

DETECTIVES OF AUTUMN HOUSE

'Detectives of Autumn House' is a novella, placed at the unique intersection of queer fiction and detective fiction. The protagonists are five LGBTQ detectives: Lira Jackson, Pallavi Jones, Gloria Banerjee, Catherine Khan, and Alice Singh. The five detectives solve a case related to queer rights violations, and the narrative of this novella is driven forward by mysterious disappearances of authors, fake job offer letters, and intellectual property rights. The narrative also explores romantic love between the protagonists and the obstacles faced by them in their love lives due to conservative socio-legal norms. The novella is highly layered and fluid and does not follow a clear chronological linearity in its narrative.
