Born Neela, nicknamed Chandu and renamed at marriage as Vijayalaxmi, this adventurous lady, now 81 years old, was born in Paratwada, Maharashtra, India. She made it to her dream city by the sea, Mumbai, and before she knew it got married to Govind, a man she very quickly fell in love with. With Govind, she traveled across the seas and made her way to England. A passionate and brave man that he was, he quickly took her on an adventure of the various continents, where he would go on to build desalination and power plants, and she would raise their family, learning and embracing so many different cultures, religions, foods and traditions along the way.
Vijayalaxmi 'Chandu' Bhanap has now made her way back to Mumbai, where she first became a dreamer, and where her life of travel and adventure began. Vijayalaxmi 'Chandu' Bhanap, wife of one, mother of two, grandmother of four boys, friend of hundreds now spends most of her time in Mumbai, although just in the past year has been to the UK, USA and Mexico. Even at 81 she still has a travel bug and gets restless in one place alter a few months. "I need to see Vithu in London, I'd like to practice my Spanish in Mexico, now I need to see Shantu, Dinu and Abhi in Palo Alto". She is very quick to pack her bag and be on her way. Her whirlwind tour to soak up as much of life and the world, her odyssey, continues!
