Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalThe book “Orality and Performance: A Study of the Revival of Dastangoi” explores the recent revival of the dastangoi, a form of oral storytelling in Urdu. This form was historically prevalent in Persian and later became an Urdu cultural form in the Indian context revealed that the dastangoi underwent numerous transformations in terms of medium, form and content from the 16th, 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. The use of illustrations to accompany the narrations appeared and disappeared over the ages, only to have returned in the form of graphic fiction recently.
Dr Ishrat Jahan
Dr. Ishrat Jahan is working as an Assistant Professor in HITAM College (JNTUH) Hyderabad. She has completed her doctorate from Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad. Her PhD topic was Dalit Images in Selected Urdu Short Stories. Her research interest includes Dalit Studies, Folk-Oral literature, Subaltern Studies, Urdu literature, Diaspora Studies, Marginal Studies, Refugee Studies, Gender Studies and Post-Colonial Studies. Her famous ethnographic research article “Rohingya Refugees in Hyderabad: Socio-Economic and Educational Conditions” was published in an edition of USA based magazine, Cafe Dissensus. She has published more than 20 research articles in various Journals. Recently, she has contributed her another chapter A Historical Experience of Poverty, Gender Inequality and Caste Politics: A Postcolonial Study of Ants Among Elephants: An Untouchable Family and the Making of Modern India. She has published and presented more than 20 research articles in various conferences/Seminar and Journals.
