The poems have various themes. Some of the poems with a political theme include The Rice Mill Owner, Extinct, The Blind Soul, Loving our Traditions, MGNREGA, The Refugees, and to our Prime Minister. The book also highlights Kuki folktales such as
1. Khupting and Ngambom (the immortal lovers)
2. Lenchonghoi (the fate of an exceptionally beautiful damsel)
3. Saijang Landslide (about a mysterious landslide in which the whole village was carried away except for the hut of a poor widow)
4. Kuki (Among the poems, “Kuki” is the longest one with 153 stanzas, written about the life of the Kukis in olden times, their customs, traditions, religion, and culture depicted through the protagonist Kuki).
Nengthenkim
Born in 1982 in Molnom Village, Churachandpur, Manipur, Mrs. Nengthenkim finished her BSc in 2004 from Churachandpur Government College. She did her Bachelors in Education at DM College of Teacher Education in 2007. In 2009, she completed her MA in Linguistics (first class, 2nd position) from Manipur University and cleared NET the next year.
She finished her MA in English literature in 2012 and secured a first-class. She has been contributing poems and short stories to magazines and journals since her college days. She started writing poems and lyrics when she was a child. She won prizes in short story competitions and also bagged a gold medal in a spot poetry competition organized by MUSU, Manipur University in 2008-09.
A hardworking mother of three children, she continued her education after marriage. Writing poems, stories, and lyrics is her passion.
