The author is a retired Professor of Biological Sciences with special reference to Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology and Plant Biology at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan, USA. After retirement, he is serving as a consultant and Director of Research for The Life science group of companies, Hyland, Michigan, and a couple of other companies dealing with disinfectants and medicinal plants. He was also associated with the Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt as a visiting Professor. He has published over 60 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and mentored many PhD and master’s level Graduate Students. After retirement, he turned his attention to the study of Nutraceuticals and various ethno-pharmaceutical systems based on plants. This included Indian, Tibetan, Iranian, Arabic, Greek, African, Amazonian, Australasian, Polynesian, and other systems of herbal medicine and formulations that were and are in vogue for treating various human and animal diseases. These extensive studies resulted in the publishing of his last book “Plant Foods for Nutritional Good Health” published in 2019 by Notion Press. The current book is a further extension of these studies but with focus on medicinal plants used in alternative medicine in different regions of the world and the potential of these plants for future development of new drugs.
