Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalThis book is a collection of about 30 poems that display the vibrant personality of the poet and would make for ardent reading. The style of writing is essentially free verse, appealing to the present-day reader who has little time to get into the depths of emotions, inner innuendos and intentions or inferences.
The quality of poetry can be plain, and each title contains lines that don’t run too long to make the reader tired at the end of the day. Still, it would also make the reader glance through and admire the skill and the art used in communicating the poet’s rather individualistic style.
There are poems about Gods, life in general, nature, romance and appreciation of the feminine beauty. Though innately artistic, the poetic style could be used for lyrics in songs, lending emotion to music too! The possibilities are amazing, indeed!
G Jayashankar Menon
The author, G Jayashankar Menon, is aged 53 and is a banker by profession. He has a keen eye for detail and tries to fathom the travails of everyday life. His artistic leanings have been evidenced since his childhood days at high school and have never stopped ever since. He became more involved in writing since starting his banking career to offset the boredom of the daily predictable routine.
The poetry he writes is mainly appealing to the modern urban reader, and his style of English has been influenced by many artists, including rock musicians. His approach to writing can sometimes be evinced as a bit too casual, but the inner meanings and the intent surface upon completion of the last word. And the positioning of the title that complements the work. The future of the poet looks rather bright considering that this is his second book in the same genre.
He finished his schooling at National Public School, Bangalore and graduated at Christ College, Bangalore. His first book Karmic Flavours was a moderate success and showcased his talent. The sequel Plain Lavender should launch him on to the ladder of success as a mainstream author and poet.
