Seven hours before she is deployed to the warfront, sixteen-year old Jade kills an Antarctican.
The war between Antarctica and the United Provinces has reigned for six long years, and has been a constant in Jade’s idealistic, patriotic world. But Jade is now in a brutal Antarctican prisoner-of-war camp and the Antarcticans have conquered her home country. Every day in the camp only seems to prove their defeat.
The rumours of the resistance, the Last Army are fragmented, but the deep-set soldier in Jade is determined and hopeful. Together with Calder, a comrade, she hatches a desperate plan for escape, which involves stealing potential vaccines and breaking into Antarctican prison, and certainly not survival.
