scenarios on the canopy of one’s imagination!
“Reflections from a Moving Stream” is a collection of poetically proactive “pearls of wisdom” that nothing is permanent or static. In fact, there is an emphasis on transition either through time, travel, or thoughts.
In a sense, the poems refl ect some of the challenging situations during my
long international medical career! I offer the reader poems that are medically
motivated; some philosophically provocative; and a few impishly witty; while
the rest expose man-made disasters, natural calamities, and life-threatening
pandemics.
Pratap Jayavanth
Pratap Jayavanth, hailing from a family of doctors, is a physician, with fl air and passion for writing in English since his school days. His international career with UNDP, World Bank, WHO, Global Fund, Ministries of Health, bilateral agencies, NGOs, and faith-based organizations transformed him into an inveterate globe-trotter and a story-teller par excellence.
The wonderful rapport he established with people from all walks of life and diverse ethnic background is subtly interwoven into his poems. His collection of thought provoking poems - ‘Refl ections from a Moving Stream’ captures his emotions and thoughts on a wide range of topics.
Pratap has been through many challenging situations: the civil war in Sri Lanka; the Gulf-war in Saudi Arabia; the post-Pol Pot period of rebuilding in Cambodia; the natural disasters in the South Pacifi c (Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Solomon Islands) and, the Indian sub-continent; political unrest in Ethiopia, and the great earthquake in Nepal and the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2008, the Royal Government of Cambodia honoured him with one of the highest civilian awards - “Honorary Commander of the Royal Order of Monisaraphon”, in recognition of his outstanding work for TB care and prevention.
