UNMASKING THE SYRIACS: THE HIDDEN ORIGIN OF INDIAN CHRISTIANITY An Archaeo-linguistic Approach

Author Name: Jeevan Philip | Format: Paperback | Genre : Religion & Spirituality | Other Details

An Archaeo-linguistic Perspective on the Origins of Indian Christianity

This is an archaeo-linguistic study of the origin of Indian Christianity, especially Syriac Christianity. The claims of the churches and respective church historians were scrutinised based on material evidence (archaeological).  The result may astonish conventional historical narratives and popular beliefs.

Important study subjects include:

1)Historical facts about Indian Christianity and its apostolic origin as claimed by different churches and their historians

2) Is there any historical material evidence of first-century Christianity in India other than hagiographies?

3) Facts about the Persian/Pahlavi crosses of south India and their ownership

4) Historical fact about church historians' hypothesis of the fourth-century subjugation of Indian Christianity by Persian Christianity

5) The comparative study of previous translations of Pahlavi inscriptions on the stone structures of South India

6) A comparison of archaeological materials discovered in ancient socio-commercial networks along Afro-Eurasian trade routes with those discovered in India

8)The historical facts about the Martyrdom of apostle Thomas at Mylapore, Chennai

Finally, an answer to an old historical problem—the question of the origin of Indian Christianity—a first-century apostolic one or a later transfer through Afro-Eurasian socio-commercial networks—is provided. An interesting read for Christians and non-Christians alike.
