Ram Gopal Soni

Dr Ram Gopal Soni, IFS, is from the Indian Forest Service (1982) Batch. He has worked in various capacities in the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department, starting from Divisional Forest Officer in various divisions ,Conservator of Forests , Field Director, Pench Tiger Reserve, Seoni, Chief Conservator of Forest, Balaghat, Jabalpur and retired as Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Member Secretary,State Biodiversity Board in the year 2014.

He is credited with the discovery of the Jungle Book area and the true story of Mowgli in Pench Tiger Reserve Seoni area. He has written three books on biodiversity and one book on forest mensuration. He hasa Ph.D in Tribal Economy and Non Wood Forest Produce, LLB, MA in Economics, MSc in Forestry, AIFC Diploma and MBA (HRD). 

He is a keen observer of nature and wildlife, and he is credited for making Pench Tiger Reserve rise from an unknown wildlife area to the number one tiger reserve in the country. His innovative ideas made Pench Tiger Reserve the best water managed area and highest prey base area per square kilometer.
