This is not a resource of last resort, but should have been incorporated into the mainstream decades ago. Only recently have municipalities started giving credits for feeding back energy to the grid. This input is a small fraction, however, since the vast majority feel that since they have paid, they should be allowed to turn up the AC full blast and similarky, the mindsets for luxury cars crowding the road with only one passenger driving.

Russia's initial goal was in developing collective agriculture for food production. India started 5 year Plans for Industrialisation of the country.

Engineering Management is a subject now taught in many engineering colleges in India. As with the Engineering curriculum, it has expanded to encompass many other related sujects under its umbrella,so much so that many aspects of TQM (Total quality Management) has also begun to be incorporated in part or whole.
Several worked out problerms and questions have been included. It is hoped the book would be helpful to students.

The efficient design of linkages, followers, gear trains and many others contributes to weight minimisation and energy loss reduction. It is a step towards sustainable manufacture. With the use of robotic machinery becoming commonplace in produciton it is necessary to reduce energy wastage in robotic assemby. This depends on the designer of the equipment. Although computer design tools can give a design, the understanding of the subject necesarily goes a long way. It is hoped the book is of use to students

Students should find this easy to understand as the concepts are gradually introduced without complicated mathematics. A knowledge of matrix methods would later be required.
The topic of global warming has reached epidemic proportions. The lay public, if not studentys need to be informed of the alternatives to fossil fuels, coal and oil. This collection of lectures designed for students is readable by the general reader also.

The book covers the last part of the MIT Online course on Electricity and Magnetisam (8,02). It overlaps with many other curricular courses at various colleges in the USA and India.
At the California Institute of Technology, in the 1960s and 1970s, the Feynman Lectures on Physics was compulsory reading for all Caltech students and consisted of Volumes 1,2,3 encompassing the course Ph1a,b,c and Ph 2 a,b,c.

Advanced graduate level concepts were taught using energy minimisation and with operator notation. Originally an experiment, the Lectures were continued thru the 70s. The set of 3 volumes came with supplements including the homework problems.
Many students found the homework problems difficult a few breezed through. The problems would be worked out in recitation classes by graduate teaching assistants. Administrators claimed it used a new pedagogy, where traditionally a grounding in ckassical mechanics was required prior to embarking on QM. The Pedagogical experiment was deemed a success by some Administrators.
Laboratory assignments included frictionless (air pressurised) sliders for momentum, Mossbauer effect measurements to detect minute shifts, Hall effect measururements etc, which were normally not the stuff of undergraduate labs at the time.
This is the second in a series of summaries and notes of the popular course at MIT -- Electricity and Magnetism.
It roughly corresponds to Ph 2a and Ph 2b at Caltech (California Institute of Techology, Pasadena, Ca, USA)., although the time frame is separated by at least 50 years.

The reader may certainly have heard of the Feynman lectures on Physics ( 3 volumes covering the 1st and 2nd years of the UG curricula at Caltech). The course was developed using a pedagogy that undergraduates could assimilate the topics of Quantum Mechanics without going through the classical mechanics prelogue.

Data has become a part of day to day life. With the onset of high power mobile computing, it sits in the palm of the hand, and there is no escaping the need for data reduction. From Tax computations, stock market investing, planning for future of childrens career and education, all need mastery of the tools for data analysis and reduction in a short time. The days of laborious punching of cards, then waiting days for the results are now like a bad dream.

Engineering Colleges are churning out students who repeat standard solutions in exams. Thinking out of the box is seldom encouraged.
The New Global Economy needs innovation and ability to adapt on the run to rapidly changing technology. Template solutions may not work though a basic grounding is always essential. The key to success in Academics and Practise is to keep modifying and changing strategies and solution methods.

Student should try and work out the problems on their own as far as possible. All the solutions are not provided for this reason, merely some hints and background to give a flavour of what they may encounter in an UG Course.

Blind reliance on such canned programs may lead to costly mishaps. In order to appreciate the workings of such methods the user needs to have a good grasp of the theory, for which matrix theory, differential and integral equations are essential.
It is hoped the book will make the subject easy to understand, for the young student and practising engineer. Numerous examples and solutions are provided. A section on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is also added.

Relaible design requires an analysis of the suitability and durability of component materials, and their subsequent behaviour under prolonged loadings. Social responsibility is one of the main goals of engineers and hence, strucutres and their components must be built to last several decades, and not as a use and throw product.

A coupled set of equations describing heat and mass transfer during phase transformation is formulated incorporating surface convective effects. These equations which are nonlinear due to the moving interface are linearised and decoupled. Effects of the Biot, Fourier, and Stefan numbers are analyzed through small parameter expansions. Solutions obtained via this artifice allow closer examination of surface effects on the boundary layer of the phase transformation. A relation is found for the effect of the glass transition temperature versus the boundary layer thickness for several alloys in various groups of the Periodic Table. Earlier work is analyzed in light of the present analysis
There are variosu applications with different techniques applied to solve the basis equations, illustarted with reference to available results in the literature.

Ocean energy is enormous, a fraction of this is witnessed during storms and typhoons. Tidal waves routinely crash over sea barriers and threaten to destroy countries and communities on small islands.
While it may be too late to completely reverse the trend set during several decades of industrial pollution, a movement is already in place to explore and use alternate energy and renewable sources of energy. It is hoped this would slow the trend of global warming, water and air pollution.

With the advent of high speed internet and IOT the field of CIM has now become more important because factories and work stations in remote locations can be linked to produce components and items sequentially or simulataneously as required.

There are several textbooks appearing meant for specific syllabi of various Universities. However, the books which cover the subject in a challenging and broad way appealing to the curious and inquisitive student are either highly priced, or rare. In this work, I have attempted to use problems with some solutions which are drawn from my Indian experience and relying on my training in California, USA, where rote learning is discouraged. For a developing country like India, where memorising has been inculcated from childhood, the graduating student has difficulty in facing real world problems of a practical and technical nature. This being so, the big companies are hesitant to hire from all but a few top colleges and Universities, and that too only from the top percentiles. As a result, the Indian Industry has relied heavily on imported and licensed technology to a large degree. Efforts to buid indigenous fighter aircraft, engines, software and O/S have lagged far behind China, Taiwan and Japan, who were inferior in technology in the 1950's . Part of the reason is the outdated syllabi of the Unversities, and part is due to the spoon feeding of the students in various forms. It is sincerely hoped that this book makes some difference and is a help to those who read and use it.

The Enabling of Rural Technologies should be the aim of even the Multinational Corporations. Every Indian citizen is enjoined by the Constitution to protect the Environment, and one of the essential tools is the knowledge of how alternative sources of Enenrgy could be used.
It is hoped that such a study would be of use to students and the general reader.
