The text begins with the introduction to general parasitology in Chapter 1. Many students will be familiar with this introductory part. This is followed by multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and fill-in-the-blank questions related to general aspects of parasitology.
Chapter 2 introduces helminthology where a brief description of phylum platy helminths (class – Trematoda and class – Cestoda) and phylum Nemahelminthes (class – Nematoda) have been given. Some descriptions are illustrated with graphics and pictures. The chapter ends with different types of questions.
Chapter 3 comprises fundamental concepts of Entomology and Acarology, along with types of question patterns. Chapter 4 covers general features of protozoology for overall understanding followed by several questions. Chapter 5 deals with questions related to diagnostic parasitology.
Chapter 6 is all about questions on zoonotic parasitic diseases. Chapter 7 sets questions related to immuno-parasitology. Chapter 8 focuses on previous exam papers. Chapter 9 elaborates on the subjective question on different aspects, Chapter 10 discusses immuno-diagnosis of parasitic diseases, and Chapter 11 provides general control measures of parasites. Chapter 12 provides answer keys. Additional details are given in Chapter 13 discussing some selected revised articles.
Dr. Gautam Patra, Dr. Lalrinkima
Dr. Gautam Patra graduated in 1992 from Bridhan Chandra Krishi Visyavidyala (BCKV), West Bengal, and then undertook MVSc in Veterinary Parasitology at Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, UP. He completed his PhD in Veterinary Parasitology from West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), West Bengal, in 2015. He is now an associate professor at CVSc&AH, Selesih, Aizawl, Mizoram, where he teaches and studies a diverse range of parasites, focusing particularly on ectoparasites of veterinary importance. After seven years of veterinary field experience, a large part of his career was spent at the Central Agricultural University, Imphal, and Manipur, India.
