A Monograph on Computer Aided Interpretation of Medical Images in MATLAB

Author Name: Dr.N.M.Nandhitha, Dr.N.Selvarasu, Dr.S.Emalda Roslin, Dr.Rekha Chakravarthi, M.S.Sangeetha | Format: Paperback | Genre : Computers | Other Details

In medicine, the existing diagnostic modalities provide images which are analysed for decision making. Paradigm has now shifted to computer aided interpretation. It involves image preprocessing, enhancement, segmentation, feature extraction and decision making. In each step, image is considered as a multidimensional matrix on which various mathematical operations are performed. MATLAB is a software tool that is extensively used for matrix operations. In this monograph, the reader is introduced to image processing and pseudo code for algorithms.

Each pseudo code is then converted into MATLAB programs. Programs for both point and neighborhood operators for image smoothening and sharpening are provided. Similarly programs for enhancement in spatial and spectral domain are given. MATLAB programs for edge detection, region growing and thresholding are writen. This monograph also has programs for segmentation in both gray scale and pseudo color images. Also in order to assist researchers, functions for quantitative characterization namely Signal to Noise Ratio and Root Mean Square Error are also provided. Every program is executed, verified and validated. Wavelet programs can be extended by the reader for segmentation, image fusion and feature extraction.
