Padmanabhan Chandrasekar worked as a professor of Biotechnology at the Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India. He earned his M.Sc. degree in Botany from Madras University and his Ph.D. degree in Environmental Biology from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He is a recipient of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Award from the Govt. of India for his work in this field. He has been teaching and guiding students in Plant Sciences including Plant Cell and Tissue Culture, Plant Virology and Plant Pathology and was also heading a number of research projects on these subjects during his career as an academician.
