Arkalgud Padmanabha has led a fulfilling life, facing a Naxal threat, handling labour issues at ITC, and traveling the world, even reaching Antarctica at 74. Born in Bangalore in 1936, Padmanabha graduated in science and law, then completed post-graduation in social research from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He initially joined the Central Institute of Public Cooperation and later moved to Harvard University’s Centre for Population Studies. Padmanabha quit formal corporate life in 1993 as Senior Vice President of ITC Bhadrachalam Ltd. Today, at 86, he remains active, contributing to community causes. M.S. University, Baroda, bestowed him the ‘National Youngster Unsung Hero Award’ in 2020.
