Cheap Pencil – A Cartoon Collection is a compilation of hundred cartoons by cartoonist and novelist Dr.Gumlat Ong Maio. These hilarious, black-and-white cartoons gained immense popularity when uploaded by the cartoonist on his Facebook page. Among these is a series called Arnachal Mirror which depicts with tongue-in-cheek satire the daily problems of the State – political crisis, corruption, bad roads, money culture in elections, to name a few. Being a doctor, his medical cartoons provide a rare insight into the doctor-patient relationship and its misunderstandings from a doctor’s point of view.

Dr.Gumlat Ong Maio

Dr.Gumlat Ong Maio has written three novels Once Upon a Time in College and its sequels Part 2 and Part 3, which form his College trilogy. His second novel was selected among the top three books of the month by Notion Press Editors’ Pick, Chennai in 2017. He has been honored by the Arunachal Pradesh State Government with the Governor’s Young Achievers Award 2018 for literature. He is also a recipient of the Indian Awaz ‘100 Inspiring Authors of India’ award in the same year. His Facebook page Once Upon a Time Somewhere has been visited over six million times by Facebook users after some of his cartoons went viral.
