About the Book

Water circulation in power plant has isonomy to blood circulation in human body

The chemistry of water in nature is a vast and complex subject which requires understanding of treatment and conditioning for industrial usage. Water quality and its applications in power plants, and resolving water related problems in boilers and associated fields, have become important features of engineering and management. This book will be helpful to water analysts and power plant engineers to conceive the concept of water treatment & control in-process chemistry and troubleshoot boiler operations. This book can be utilized to bridge the gap between applied chemistry of water and power plant operations.Data tabulation and graphical presentations make the subject clear and easy to understand.

Various analytical techniques have been discussed to troubleshoot the process problems arising during operation. The presentations are made in the format of a workbook, as a ready reference for operating engineers of power plant. Effort is made to explain water chemistry with examples, and chemical reactions related to treatment and effect of impurities in process water, along with treatment programs.

The book deals with:

Effect of water on quality of steamBoiler metal corrosionLoss of efficiency while scaling/ depositsAllowable corrosion and depositsOperational and maintenance problems and remedial action plansStandardization and tolerances of water parameters in power plants.Spectrum of water properties Effects of water quality on process parameters Corrosion and deposits in steam generators,Remedial treatment & controls applied to water in process and technique to ascertain parameters to minimize the ill effect in process.

Mr. Kameshwar Upadhyay, writer of the book was born and brought up at Varanasi UP in a farmer family. His general education was completed in home town. He has post graduated in mechanical engineering from NIT (Jamshedpur –Jharkhand). He had worked about 25 years in Tata Steel in various divisions and positions. After separation from Tata Steel, he had installed, commissioned and operated more than ten power plants. He has actively worked as project coordinator in power plant projects from planning to operation & maintenance. He had cultivated vital experience and expertise in thermal power plants.

During working in Tata Steel, he has gained expertise in NDT & Vibration Analysis, preventive & predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and dynamic balancing techniques. He is utilizing his expertise as consultant in power plant. Presently he is working as Director Technical in SSPL Jamshedpur – Jharkhand). He had written two books, published by Notion Press (Chennai) –
