Commercial banks and NBFCs are into dairy finance business since many years. Policy makers are consistently emphasizing on improving credit flow to dairy sector including all its sub segments. Recently government included working capital finance for dairy activity as one of the priority area and brought it within the ambit of interest subvention. Now Kisan Credit Card facility is available for dairy farmers. 

Every financer has explored lending to one or another sub segment of dairy and they have their own learnings. These learnings are being used for mitigating credit risk with scale up or down approach. One thing is most commonly noted that from financer’s perspective that, dairy finance to individual farmers is seen as one of the riskiest from credit point of view. Rajesh Kharche is a postgraduate in agriculture and an agri-banker with over two decades of experience in public and private sector banks. He worked in many part of the country, from branch to region to state to zone. He is conscientious about all aspects of agriculture and rural finance. His responsibilities include Agri-finance from start to finish, including business development, underwriting, product, policy, strategy, collection, and risk management, among other things.

His previous book "Bankers' Hand Book on Kisan Credit Cards."  contains information that is not available in the banking sphere but is useful in day-to-day Agri-banking. This technical knowledge of agriculture is beneficial to the entire rural banking fraternity in driving profitable agriculture finance. His practical field experience, along with agricultural education and financial management, ushered in new areas of farm finance. Before joining ICICI Bank, he worked for Union Bank of India, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank in agriculture and rural banking division.
