In Your Corner Short Stories on Adolescent Mental Well-being

Author Name: Naina Srivastava & Fazal Kidwai | Format: Paperback | Genre : Families & Relationships | Other Details

Do you remember when you were a teenager? The fun, the laughter, the rebellious adventures? But do you also remember the chaos within you, the storm of emotions, stress, the longing to belong, and the fight to fit in?

Your own teenager is going through all this and so much more. But how will you help them when their only response is, “I’m fine” when they are so clearly not?

This book holds ten heart-warming stories that show the torment of adolescent mental health issues – like ADHD, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, bullying, substance abuse, gender identity and more – and the importance of becoming your teenager’s best friend so they can tell you how they truly feel.

Only when you’re in your teen’s corner, ready to fight the world for them, will you be able to ensure your adolescent child stays safe and grows up to have a healthy, resilient mind.

Seems impossible? This book will show you how. After all, when it comes to your child, you are always in their corner, and you will do whatever it takes, no matter what.

Naina Srivastava
Naina Srivastava was born and raised in New Delhi, India; she has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and has done an MBA specialising in Marketing and Finance. She then pursued a career in banking for over a decade. However, she realised it wasn't her true calling. She decided to join the non-profit space, where she worked with renowned organisations like KHUSHII and Save the Children, India, to help improve the lives of underprivileged children.

Naina is also a mother of two young boys. To help them cope with the growing-up trials, she wanted to learn about the challenges they have yet to face. She found that addressing mental distress in teens was vital to helping them develop into healthy adults with resilience, which led to the writing of this book. Through it, Naina hopes to help the readers, primarily focused on parents, guardians and teachers of teens, feel empowered to help children through hard times. She also hopes to contribute to a larger conversation about mental health and wellness, especially in India, while increasing understanding, compassion, and empathy for those affected and making a positive difference in the world.

Fazal Kidwai
Fazal, Naina’s husband, has made documentary films on a vast range of subjects for almost two decades now and has worked extensively on women and child issues, sports, arts and crafts of India, sustainable tourism and many more socially relevant subjects.

He has also worked with various NGOs and government ministries in promoting their schemes and policies through films, like the Ministry for Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Ministry of Rural Development, apart from many state ministries.
While researching a documentary a few years ago, Fazal discovered the glaring gaps in India's mental health infrastructure and the stigmatisation around mental illness that plagues our society. These issues stayed on his mind until Naina, and he decided to write this book, which is informed by much of his research.
