His first shore job was as a teacher in DMET to share his experiences and build India’s talent in the marine engineering domain. He also has a varied working experience ashore as a superintendent engineer and as a ship surveyor where he played a long innings with Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), India’s national ship classification society during which he continued to enhance marine engineering industry through his work of ship surveys, machinery plan approval, quality management and training. He was part of the IACS quality committee for many years.

Uday retired from IRS as the Chief Surveyor and Senior Vice President.

He continued to conduct audits for quality management systems of other ship classification societies after his retirement from IRS until he was called back to IRS for a second innings as a full-time consultant for quality and training.
