My Shipping Voyage

Author Name: Jawid Iqbal Khan | Format: Paperback | Genre : Travel | Other Details

I was well-paid to see the world. Coming from a middle-class family, it was my dream to travel and see the world. This motto inspired me to join the merchant navy. I spent almost 30 years on board ships, in the rank of Radio Officer—although the post was abolished in the late 1990s. Though retired now, my friends and colleagues urged me to write about my personal life at sea. So here I am, to describe in detail the journey of my shipping voyages. In this adventurous journey, I happened to visit almost all the continents. It was really a dream come true. There are lots of actual facts which I have included and discussed in this book, and I really hope that my readers enjoy it to the maximum. In a nutshell, it's the journey of a sailor amidst the perils as well as the adventures of life at sea.

A sailor by profession, 70-year-old J.I.Khan wrote this autobiography over a span of six months. He is not a professional writer. My shipping voyage is his first book. He had never imagined that he would write an autobiography, but a chance remark from his son and his friends made him ponder about penning down his 30-year-old life at sea. Initially, the thought of writing amused him as he had never ever written any book. Moreover, he was very apprehensive about what he should write, which would be of interest to others. But, with his sons and friends encouraging him, he took on the daunting yet an adventurous task of writing his autobiography, which turned out to be absolutely worth reading for other mercantile marine officers as well as upcoming aspirants and novices, who want to make a career at sea.
