Do experiences in your life influence your perspective about your future?

Life is a wonderful gift to mankind. Provided you live it, love it, and cherish it with great exuberance and a positive mindset. It’s impossible to write without being influenced in some way by your life experiences, whether intentionally or otherwise. But one has to mine value from these experiences rather than be blindly led by them. Serving for more than 36 years in three different uniforms, experiencing various ups and downs, different terrains, altitudes, and places: it was more than an exhilarating odyssey. The interaction with varied personalities, colleagues, mentors, friends, and subordinates moulded his attitude to face enormous challenges and, at times, adversities coming his way with confidence in the right frame of my mind. As a medical professional in Armed Forces, Surgeon Captain Mohan experienced many unusual events that possibly very few medicos could ever imagine. He survived the brush with death three times. Maybe it was his destiny, but each experience added to his confidence and prepared him to take on further challenges pretty smoothly in life. His knack for rolling into adventures helped him accept a few dangerous assignments head-on and come out of them with laurels. Here in this book, you go onto a rollercoaster ride, reading those selected genuine experiences that made his life more than a celebration.

Surgeon Captain Mohan Rote (Retd)

A former Army Medical Corps officer, Surgeon Captain Mohan hails from a middle-class Maharashtrian family. After completing his graduation in medicine, in the prevalent situation, he volunteered to join Armed Forces against his parents’ will. He was commissioned in the Indian Army on 15 February 1985. Upon promotion, he opted to change over to the Indian Navy in the year 2008. He was fortunate to don three different uniforms over more than 36 years of dedicated service, including a stint abroad on deputation to Sultanate of Oman for more than three years. He held numerous administrative and technical appointments over the period and got varied experiences. He succeeded in carving a distinctive image for himself during all his assignments as executive officer of large hospitals, command of hospitals, medical planning and execution of various operational requirements, mountaineering expeditions, skiing events, and various others. He is a fitness freak, adventurer, qualified mountaineer, snow skier, and scuba diver. He tries to pursue his hobbies like pencil sketching, painting, and writing, both in English and Marathi. Upon relinquishing his uniform post superannuation, he was keen to let his thoughts run free by putting them on paper. Hence, he is sharing his personal experiences in this book.
