Prof. R V M Chokkalingam
Prof. RVM. Chokkalingam is a former Lecturer/ Curator/ Scientist and now @ 77 is a local professor and a consultant in Public Engagement in Science. He started his career as Lecturer @ Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic Bangalore (1966-68); worked as Curator @ Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, Bangalore (1968-83); and became Scientist @ National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore (1983-2003). He is a Science Museum Scholar, specialized in ‘Design of Science Exhibit’ @ Science Museum, London. His long and distinguished career in Science Engagement and Communication spanned more than five decades. He is one of the pioneers in the development of ‘Low-Cost-Teaching Aids in Physics’ to help equip rural schools. ‘Science- on- Wheels’ has been his initial opportunity to design and pilot hands-on science exhibits. He mentored school students and teachers in creating innovative ‘Science Fair Projects’ and now continues to be a jurist for several Science Fairs. He is a ‘Science Writer’ and has authored several popular science books and published many articles in newspapers and magazines. He is the recipient of Karnataka State award for ‘Science Communication’ in 2012. He is a paper airplane enthusiast.
