In this book, a specific time period between 2010 and 2020 has been chosen. Different perspectives on how India as a nation is responding to sustainability and climate change related challenges, in the context of few Environment and Sustainability related National and Global policies and framework, which were released during this time period, are analyzed in this book. The author of this book believes that the 6th Mass-Extinction, thus the end of Holocene is inevitable. In various chapters of this book the author has tried to give a narrative on how this decade has contributed to this journey through Holocene. The time period between 2010 and 2020 was marked by different International forum working as safe guardians of the planet by introducing a series of transformational conventions and treaties. Both at a National and Global level, there have been number of mile stone events, related to biodiversity, environment, sustainability and climate change, which, according to author, are going to shape the next couple of decades’ environmental health as well as the survival faith of this planet and all living beings on it.
This is a book for everybody who is concerned about sustainability of this planet.
Arnab Basu
Arnab, is an environmentalist by training and profession. His nearly two decades of consultancy experience in the field of environment and sustainability and five years of association as natural history commentator with a natural history, nonprofit, non-governmental organization Exploring Nature, motivated and encouraged him to pick pen and paper and express his thoughts on how the journey of sustainability in the recent decade of this geological epoch took shape under the influence of neo-liberal concept of sustainable development.
Arnab made his writing debut when he was twelve years old with a play script based on a short story of Rabindra Nath Tagore and staged that with his childhood friends in Calcutta, in 1990. After that he wrote various short stories, articles, editorials on a motely of contemporary issues. However, his serious writing on issues of environment, sustainability and natural history started in 2015. The Journey through Holocene, is his first endeavor to publish a book comprising his thoughts on sustainability, keeping in mind the interest of common people who don’t have any formal background in sustainability.
