My romance story, “The Unconventional Love Saga – Turns and Twists of Life” is about the timeless love story between two passionate souls from the ‘city of joy.’ it is the first part of the series, ‘Binayak’s Tales’ and is about formative days of the life of the protagonists. it is not a modern-day’s love story, where education, ambition, the right to choose one’s partner, co-education, friendship with the opposite sex, dating, live-in relationship, freedom of, love, and choosing one’s life-mate were the choices for a common man.
In my novel, one of the protagonists’ childhoods is spent in the village on the other side of the border and the college days are spent in Calcutta in the early 70s. Those days, “LOVE LAWS”, as the famed Indian Writer, Arundhati Ray says, rule. I have tried to portray the then world that can ignore and forget the depravation of women in various forms but never forgive those who infringe on the “love laws” strictly imposed.
Only the authorities, who play “God”, can dictate whom one must choose to love and “how much” to love. Therefore, the wealthy and class-conscious family of Deepa and the relatives turn hostile against the lovers.
Ironically the novel depicts a tale of romance set in early 70’s West Bengal. Nevertheless, most of its adults/seniors are yet to understand the growing new generation! So, as the novel progresses, one can feel the antagonism between the values of the newly educated small-town young generation and the old.
Bikash Paul Choudhury (pen Name - Yudhajit)
Bikash Paul Choudhury, alias Yudhajit retired as the Chief Engineer, PHE Department of Meghalaya in 2017. After doing B.E. (Civil) from the Regional Engineering College, Durgapur, he completed the Master of Engineering in Public Health from the All-India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health, Kolkata. After a brief stint with the public sector in Mumbai, Bikash decided to serve his state where he spent his entire service life for the next 37 years.
His personal experiences during these long service years, varied from fulfilling to traumatic, from the happy-go-lucky to the extreme despondency, and the vicissitudes of life he has richly lived – with all its hope and joy, all its pain and suffering, all its exuberance and disappointment, necessitated to writing books. His life is as it is overwhelming, always real. The experiences he narrated in his books span not only his service life experiences but his other areas in life.
Though a late starter in writing, Bikash is also a budding poet and has a passion for pencil sketching. This is his sixth book written in less than two years; and is the first part of his second fictional series – “Binayak’s Tales”. His first three fictions in a series, “Lucy’s Trilogy”, namely “Ecstasy on the Mountain”, “Over a Long Night”, and “Seashore at Twilight” were all self-published on Amazon platforms; and his fourth and fifth books were” The Unending Trail” (his autobiographical fiction) and “Powerful” (the only non-fiction). Three of his five books were best-seller number one in Amazon. in.
